1: Lavender

Lavender is a flower plant native to the Mediterranean. Different varieties have different flower shapes, flowering times and colors. In addition to adding color to the garden, lavender also has a good mosquito repellent effect.

Maintenance instructions:
Lavender can be planted in the flower beds of the garden or in pots, but be sure to ensure that the soil is well drained and has sufficient sunlight. Lavender likes hot sunshine and dry soil. If the lavender you planted does not grow lush, it is probably because of excessive watering, insufficient sunlight, or too high humidity.

Note: Lavender blooms from May to August every year; from a global perspective, not all lavender is purple. Some hybrid lavender varieties can also appear purple-blue, rose-red, light pink, white, or even yellow, such as white lavender-Lavandula'Melissa'.

2: Catnip
Catnip, also known as nepeta, camphor grass, cool mint, and aniseed, is a perennial herb with white or light blue flowers. The smell of catnip can make cats hallucinate, so it is loved by cats. But at the same time, the nepetalactone chemical contained in catnip is a smell that mosquitoes hate, so catnip is often used as an insect repellent.

Maintenance instructions:
Catnip is dark purple, pink, purple or white in color. It is an easy-to-grow and fast-growing plant. Catnip can grow in almost any soil as long as the soil is well drained. It can grow in the sun or in the shade. Except for regular watering at the beginning of the first growing season, it rarely needs additional water.

3: Scented geranium
Scented geranium is a perennial plant with fragrant leaves and flowers. They have a special fragrance that not only repels mosquitoes, but also resists a variety of insects.

Maintenance instructions:
Scented geranium likes a warm and dry growing environment, is drought-resistant but not cold-resistant, has low requirements for water, but is afraid of waterlogging. When cultivating, in addition to applying enough basal fertilizer, especially during the flowering period, a thin liquid fertilizer can be applied every 7-10 days. Less or no watering 3-5 days before fertilization is more conducive to root absorption.

4: Lemongrass
Lemongrass has a unique smell and can effectively repel mosquitoes. The most common natural ingredient in mosquito repellents is citronella, so it has strong commercial uses.

Maintenance instructions:
Lemongrass prefers a warm and humid environment, requires full sun or semi-shaded environment, and has good soil drainage. It can be planted in flower beds or potted plants.

Note:  Lemongrass is not frost-resistant, and maintenance measures should be taken in cold seasons.

5: Mint
Everyone is familiar with mint. There are various mint foods and mint medicines. However, in addition to its edible and medicinal value, the fragrance it emits can also produce an effective mosquito repellent effect. The stronger the mint smell, the better the insect repellent effect.

Maintenance instructions:
Mint is a perennial herb with strong adaptability to the environment. It can grow below 2,100 meters above sea level and can survive above 3,500 meters. It is resistant to low temperatures and likes sunlight. It is a long-day crop, generally at 20℃~30℃. As long as the water and fertilizer are suitable, the higher the temperature, the faster it grows. If you plant mint on your balcony at home, its dried leaves can also be used as a natural pest control method.

6: Basil
Basil is an aromatic plant that can be used as both medicine and food. Its smell is very similar to fennel. The whole plant has a strong pungent smell. It is one of the plants that can achieve good mosquito and insect repellent effects without crushing the leaves.

Maintenance instructions:
Basil likes a warm and humid climate environment. It is not cold-resistant, but drought-resistant, and has high requirements for soil drainage. Fertile sandy loam or humus loam is most suitable.

7: Marigold
Marigold is sown in spring and summer and generally blooms 60 days after germination. Because of its large flowers and long flowering period (7-9 months), it is often used for flowerbed landscaping. But in addition to this, the smell of marigold can not only repel mosquitoes, but also has a certain repellent effect on aphids, tobacco moths, beetles, etc.

Maintenance instructions:
Marigold is a sunny and sturdy plant. The soil requires fertile and well-drained sandy loam. The suitable temperature for the growing environment is between 15℃-25℃, but the temperature will change during the flowering period. The suitable temperature is around 18℃-20℃. If placed below 10℃ or in a place with insufficient sunlight, the growth of marigold will slow down and the flowers will be fewer and smaller.

8. Rosemary
Rosemary is widely used in medicine, fried foods and the preservation of various oils. In addition, the special smell of rosemary also has strong insect repellent, sterilization and insecticidal effects.

Maintenance instructions:
Rosemary likes a warm climate, but too high a temperature will also slow down its growth. It does not require much water and is relatively drought-resistant, but requires good soil drainage. After rosemary is planted and survives, it can be pruned after 3 months, but the length of the pruned part must not exceed half the length of the branch. Rosemary can be harvested for many years after it is planted once. The harvest is mainly branches and leaves, which can be broken with scissors or directly removed by hand.

Maintenance Instructions:
Sage prefers a warm, sunny, well-ventilated environment. It is drought-resistant, requires little fertilizer, and has low maintenance costs. However, after the plant survives, it generally needs about 6 hours of sunlight per day to promote flowering (some sage hybrids can also grow in a cool environment, but such varieties are very rare). Sage generally blooms from late spring to autumn, and the flower spikes are mostly dark blue, but there are also pink, red and rare yellow.

The whole plant can be used as a stimulant or laxative, and can also treat headaches and toothaches; its edible value is that it can play a fragrant role in cooking seasoning, such as lemon balm coconut drink, lemon balm vinegar, etc.; but in addition, the fragrance emitted by lemon balm also has a certain mosquito repellent effect.
